Here at Remote-how, we’re truly excited about the quality and quantity of contributors that we’ve managed to get together in creating the whole Remote-how Academy experience. The amount of knowledge and experience on offer is second to none. With contributors from Stanford University, GitLab, New York Times, Buffer, Mural and many more, we’re all able to learn from their collective experiences in the industry through the Remote-how academy.

Each author has given us their personal tips and tricks throughout the five modules we have on offer: Self-Organization, Communication, Digital Collaboration, Self-Care and Finding a Job. After completing the course, employers and remote-employees will have all the necessary and key skills required in making remote-work work for you and your company!

Shannon Santanocito

Shannon Santanocito is a long-time advocate and champion for supporting a remote and distributed workforce. Over her 20+ year IT career she’s worked remotely for 7 years in various roles in leadership and management positions. More recently for the past three years, she has been working remotely as a Technical Consultant and Development Project Manager in a University setting where remote working is not the norm. She co-founded and now co-leads a community of practice, a group of folks who come together to discuss how to best support growing remote and distributed workforce.

Hailley Griffis

Hailley Griffis is a Public Relations Manager at Buffer, a social media management platform that helps businesses schedule social media posts, analyze the results and reply to their communities. She’s worked with Buffer for nearly 3 years and along with the rest of the team has done so completely remotely. She’s also a co-host on Buffer’s podcast The Science of Social Media, currently an iTunes “Top 10” in the social media category. She also undertakes a side project podcast called MakeWorkWork.

Dr. Todd Dewett

Dr. Todd Dewett is a best-selling author at LinkedIn Learning, as well as a TEDx and Inc. Magazine Top 100 leadership speaker. He has been quoted widely in such publications as the New York Times and TIME magazine. The former award-winning professor and alumnus of Andersen Consulting and Ernst & Young has delivered over 1,000 speeches and created a body of educational work enjoyed by over 20,000,000 professionals around the globe.

Jim Kalbach

Jim Kalbach is a noted author, speaker, and instructor in user experience design, information architecture, and strategy. He is currently Head of Customer Experience at MURAL, the leading online whiteboard. Jim has worked with large companies, such as eBay, Audi, SONY, Elsevier Science, Lexis Nexis, and Citrix. In 2007 Jim published his first full-length book, Designing Web Navigation (O’Reilly, 2007). His second book, Mapping Experiences (O’Reilly, 2016), focuses on the role of visualizations in strategy and innovation. He blogs at experiencinginformation.com and tweets under @jimkalbach.

Barbie Brewer

Ms. Barbie Brewer has been Chief Culture Officer at GitLab Inc. since September 2017 and has over 20 years of HR experience. With GitLab being an all-remote company, we feel privileged to have such an experienced person on board with us here at Remote-how. Barbie focuses on fostering a strong employee support system and an engaging environment as GitLab continues to scale the business and build its all-remote workforce. Her expertise is in her ability to strike a balance between a successful, fast-growing company and one that values a diverse workforce focused on support and respect. Prior to GitLab, Barbie was VP, Talent for Netflix, helping to take the company from less than 20 Million subscribers in the US and Canada to over 100 Million globally.
